- שְׁפָא
- שְׁפֵי, שְׁפָאch. same, 1) to incline, make slanting. Sabb.98b דשָׁפֵי להו כי טורין they made the boards slanting like mountain sides (bringing to a point; Ar. טָרִיז q. v.); Yalk. Ex. 370. 2) to pour out slowly. Ḥull.67a לא לִשְׁפֵּיוכ׳, v. צִיבְּתָא. B. Kam. 115b אפשר … וש׳ ליה (not דש׳) one may put something (a piece of cloth ) over the month of a jug, and pour (strain) the liquid through. Sabb.139b שָׁפוּ שיכראוכ׳ Rashi (ed. שָׁאפוּ) they poured beer slowly from vessel to vessel (leaving the dregs behind); a. e.Kidd.71b שָׁפֵי חלא vinegar dealer, v. שָׁפֵיחָלָא.Trnsf. to let the blood flow after bloodletting. Sabb.129a דלמא ש׳ ליהוכ׳ perhaps the surgeon may bleed him too long
